Running a small business is a rewarding and humbling experience. At Virtual Office Admins, we love running our small business and enjoy the sense of community we have with our clients. There can be times, however, where we feel like we need a reminder about why we shouldn’t give up.

That’s why, this week we’re bringing you a list of five massive companies that once started out with humble roots. Whether your goal is to grow your business by leaps and bounds or to stay local and serve your immediate community, it’s inspiring to see how far these companies have come.

Founded in 1976 by Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak. The massive technology company was started by the
two college dropouts in an effort to bring the computer into the home. These days, it’s hard to find a home in the U.S. without an Apple product.

Harley-Davidson

In 1903, William Harley along with his friend, Arthur Davidson began building the famous motorcycle out of a shed in Wisconsin. The famous Harley is now one of, if not, the most well-known manufacturers. Not bad for starting in a shed!

Mattel

The world-famous toy manufacturer was started by Harold Mattson and Ruth and Elliot Handler. Ruth would go on to invent the Barbie doll, a staple for young girls, whom which she named after daughter, Barbara.coffee-424763_1920

Starbucks

In Seattle’s Pike Place Market in 1971, partners Jerry Baldwin, Zev Siegl and Gordon Bowker founded the coffee giant. Starbucks coffee is a staple for many people and even has it’s own language.

Yankee Candle

Who knew that a teenager could create a candle company that would go on to be on of the largest candle companies in the U.S? That’s just what Michael Kitteredge did at 16-years-old out of his Massachusetts home.

Humble roots, indeed. These companies show that with determination and dedication, the sky can be the limit when it comes to your business. Whether big or small, you’re business is worth the hard work you put into it and the future you see for your business.
